A frost hardy (to -8oC) evergreen shrub from New Zealand that forms a well branched shrub to 1.2m/4ft tall and 1.5m/4.9ft wide with distinct chocolate coloured foliage, especially in cold weather. Grows well in seaside gardens, withstanding strong winds well. It should be planted in well drained soil in full sun and trimmed to shape. It can also make a good low hedge.

A tough evergreen shrub (1m-2m/3ft-6.5ft h x 1m/3ft s) from New Zealand with slivery grey foliage and small yellow flowers in the spring, followed by reddish-orange berries in the Autumn. Makes a good hedge in a coastal or windy position. Can be trimmed to shape. Plant in well drained soil in an open sunny position.

A great coastal pick, able to withstand salt laden gales, when grown in free draining soil in an open sunny position.
