Native of Brazil, Argentina and Chile, the 'pampas grass' is the most well-known Cortaderia species. This particular variety has mid-green leaves and produces fantastic erect, silvery plumes that erupt from the base of the plant, through the foliage, up to 1.5m/5ft high. More compact than most other pampas grasses, this one can also withstand tough conditions. It thrives in a fertile, well-drained soil in full sun, though can grow well on a range of soil types.
