This hardy plant (height 30-60cm/1-2ft) is characterised by its stiff orange-brown leaves arranged in fans, like miniature flax in appearance - tapering to a sharp point. It will spread underground to form clumps but not aggressively, and white flowers will sit on small stems in the spring, followed by yellow seed capsules. It prefers a sunny position in a loose soil.
