A hardy succulent from Arizona (height 1-2m/3.3-6.5ft, spread 1.5-2m/4.9-6.5ft) with many inward facing spines and a sharp tip spine, borne on leaves that can reach 1m/3.3ft long and 10cm/3.9inches wide. The leaves are a grey to deep green colour, and as the plant ages a dramatic flower spike appears with umbels of bright golden yellow flowers. This spike can reach an impressive 4-6m/ high. It should be planted in full sun in a well drained soil, with plenty of grit added if necessary.
