A stunning exotic plant from South America commonly known as the pineapple plant. It forms a dense rosette of curled greyish-green leaves about 70cm/2.2ft long with very spiny margins. Mature plants have a spread of about 1m/3.3ft and have a spectacular flower stem that can reach 3-4m/9.8-13ft high with metallic green-blue flowers with orange anthers. It should be planted in a very well drained soil in full sun – and is also ideal for walls and banks, and containers, as long as the soil is free draining. It should be protected from frost below around -6oC.
